Hadith Grading
Scholars verify a hadith's authenticity through its chain of narrators (isnad) and the text itself (matn). Each narration is assigned a grade reflecting its reliability.
Highest level of authenticity. A continuous chain of trustworthy narrators with precise memories, free from defects or irregularities in both chain and content.
A hybrid classification used primarily by Imam At-Tirmidhi. Indicates a narration that is strongly reliable, often corroborated by multiple independent chains of transmission.
Reliable and accepted for legal evidence. Similar to Sahih, but with narrators whose precision of memory is considered slightly less exacting.
Falls short of Hasan requirements due to gaps in the chain or questions about narrator reliability. Not used for establishing core rulings or beliefs, though scholars differ on its limited use in virtuous deeds.
