'An Abi Sa'idin-l-Khudri radiyallahu 'anhu 'ani-n-Nabiyyi sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallama qala:
On the authority of Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
Ihtajjati-l-jannatu wa-n-nar.
Paradise and Hell-fire disputed together.
Faqalati-n-naru: fiyya-l-jabbaruna wa-l-mutakabbirun.
Hell-fire said: In me are the mighty and the haughty.
Wa qalati-l-jannatu: fiyya du'afa'u-n-nasi wa masakinuhum.
Paradise said: In me are the weak and the poor.
Faqada-llahu baynahuma:
So Allah judged between them, saying:
Innaki-l-jannatu rahmati, arham biki man asha'.
You are Paradise, My mercy; through you I show mercy to those I wish.
Wa innaki-n-naru 'adhabi, u'adhdhibu biki man asha'.
And you are Hell-fire, My punishment; through you I punish those I wish.
Wa likilayкuma 'alayya mil'uha.
And it is incumbent upon Me that each of you shall have its fill.
Rawahu Muslimun (wa kadhalika-l-Bukhari wa-t-Tirmidhi).
It was related by Muslim (also by al-Bukhari and at-Tirmidhi).
