On the authority of Abu Abbas Abdullah bin Abbas (RA), who said:
Kuntu khalfa Rasūli Allāhi ṣallā Allāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam yawman, faqāla: "Yā ghulāmu! Innī u‘allimuka kalimātin:"
One day I was behind the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and he said: "O young man, I shall teach you some words [of advice]:"
"Iḥfaẓi Allāha yaḥfaẓka, iḥfaẓi Allāha tajid_hu tujāhaka,"
"Be mindful of Allah and Allah will protect you. Be mindful of Allah and you will find Him in front of you."
"idhā sa’alta fas’al Allāha, wa idhā ista‘anta fasta‘in billāhi,"
"If you ask, ask of Allah; and if you seek help, seek help from Allah."
"wa‘lam annal-ummata law ijtama‘at ‘alā an yanfa‘ūka bishay’in lam yanfa‘ūka illā bishay’in qad katabahu Allāhu laka,"
"And know that if the nation were to gather together to benefit you with anything, they would benefit you only with something that Allah had already prescribed for you;"
"wa ini ijtama‘ū ‘alā an yaḍurrūka bishay’in lam yaḍurrūka illā bishay’in qad katabahu Allāhu ‘alayka;"
"and if they gather together to harm you with anything, they would harm you only with something that Allah had already prescribed against you."
"rufi‘at al-aqlāmu, wa jaffat aṣ-ṣuḥufu."
"The pens have been lifted and the pages have dried."
