عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه و سلم قَالَ:
'Anibni 'Abbāsin raḍiya-llāhu 'anhumā anna rasūla-llāhi ṣalla-llāhu 'alayhi wa sallama qāl:
On the authority of Ibn Abbas (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said:
"لَوْ يُعْطَى النَّاسُ بِدَعْوَاهُمْ"
"Law yu'ṭan-nāsu bi-da'wāhum"
"Were people to be given everything they claimed,"
"لَادَّعَى رِجَالٌ أَمْوَالَ قَوْمٍ وَدِمَاءَهُمْ،"
"ladda'ā rijālun amwāla qawmin wa dimā'ahum,"
"men would claim the wealth and lives of others."
"لَكِنَّ الْبَيِّنَةَ عَلَى الْمُدَّعِي،"
"lakinnal-bayyinatu 'alal-mudda'ī,"
"But the onus of proof is upon the claimant,"
"وَالْيَمِينَ عَلَى مَنْ أَنْكَرَ"
"wal-yamīnu 'alā man ankar"
"and the oath is upon him who denies."
حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ رَوَاهُ الْبَيْهَقِيُّ وَغَيْرُهُ.
